A regional public library system inherited an unverified 38,400-disc audio and reference collection spanning 1978–2010, much of it stored in a non-climate-controlled basement. The collection could not be re-circulated until every disc was graded, mould-stamped, and either reinstated, quarantined, or retired.

An independent label preparing a 25th-anniversary reissue campaign needed every master, promo, and test pressing in their archive verified against Discogs and the label's own release logs before pressing-plant orders could be placed.

    Intake & Scope

    A 45-minute call with a named archivist.

    We map your collection size, format mix, storage conditions, and the regulatory or institutional standard you are working against. You leave the call with a one-page summary and a fixed-fee quote.

    Output Scoped work-plan + fixed-fee proposal, typically within 72 hours.

    Intake Receipt

    Sealed transport, witnessed receipt, baseline image.

    Discs arrive in tamper-evident archival sleeves inside climate-controlled transit cases. Every box is opened under dual-witness protocol and serial-logged against your inventory before grading begins.

    Output Signed receipt-of-custody manifest + baseline serial register.

  3. 03

    Verification & Grading

    ISO 16363-grade inspection, per disc, per side.

    Each disc is graded against the eight-axis ISO 16363 protocol: surface, reflectivity, edge seal, bonding layer, label legibility, format compliance, content integrity, and historical accuracy. Mould, oxidation, and delamination are flagged and photographed.

    Output Per-disc grading report + quarantine recommendations.

  4. 04

    Reissue, Retire, or Return

    A sealed-and-stamped decision on every disc.

    Discs approved for retention are stamped with a tamper-evident serial; retired discs are physically destroyed and witnessed; returned discs ship in their original sleeves inside archival mailers. Every engagement closes with a single signed manifest.

    Output Sealed chain-of-custody certificate + signed final manifest.

What does the engagement cost, and how is it scoped?
Fixed-fee per engagement, scoped against collection size, format mix, on-site share, and regulatory standard. You receive a written one-page quote before any disc leaves your facility.
Who physically handles the discs, and what are their qualifications?
Every disc is graded inside our ISO 16363-certified lab in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, by 1 of 11 full-time disc-verification technicians, supervised by 1 of 4 ALM-certified archivists. We do not subcontract.
What is the replacement guarantee, and how is it enforced?
Every disc sold through our archival service carries a free 10-year Bit-Rot Replacement Guarantee covering rot, oxidation, and delamination. The guarantee is written on the chain-of-custody certificate and is honoured against the original serial.
